World Bellydance Day
Saturday, May 10, 2008

The mission of World Bellydance Day is to unite the community of dancers around the world in celebration of the art of belly dance. The dancers' holiday is observed on the second Saturday in May every year, and serves as a reminder that belly dance is an art form, a cultural event, a sport and a social and family entertainment.  Belly dancing has often been misinterpreted as a dance of seduction, when in reality, belly dancing originated amont ancient women as the first women's support group.  The dance was based on exercises that prepare women for childbirth and for healing afterwards.

From 11:30 to 5 pm, Beledi Global Dance & Boutique will participate with her sisters around the world, offering FREE classes and performances all day. You will have the opportunity to donate the cost of a class to Michael's Place, a local center for the healing of grieving families.
