Why does a poised, polished professional turn into a surly teenager when her mother casually asks "do you really think the nanny should be picking up the kids at school?" Women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s today have more choices than ever before, about when and whether to marry, what career to have, and what to serve their kids for dinner. But with choice often comes regret about the path not taken, and these regrets are all the more painful when your mother questions your fundamental life choices. These issues are raised in the book, Making Up With Mom, Why Mothers and Daughters Disagree About Kids, Careers and Casseroles (and What to Do About It). The book was written by journalist Julie Halpert and sociologist Deborah Carr. Halpert will be signing copies of the book.
The book, based on interviews with 100 mothers and daughters, is the first to explore why Generation X and late Baby Boomer women can't see eye to eye with their mothers, and what to do about this generational divide.
