Anna Karenina
Thursday, December 13, 2012

Playing at 1, 3:45, 6:30, 9:15 pm.

2012/UK/R/129 min
Director: Joe Wright
Cast: Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Matthew Macfadyen and Kelly Macdonald

The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

“Risky and ambitious enough to count as an act of artistic hubris, and confident enough to triumph on its own slightly – wonderfully – crazy terms.”
-A.O. Scott, New York Times

“Intelligently ecstatic with the emotions running at fever pitch!”
-Richard Corliss, Time

“’Anna Karenina’ sings, dances and finally soars, even as its legendary heroine plunges to her most self-destructive depths.
-Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

“The result is a masterpiece of moving pieces, a dizzying and obscenely beautiful film that boils down Tolstoy’s text to its most basic elements by making literal the theater of high society.”
-David Ehrlich, Box Office Magazine

“Truly Stunning! Fascinatingly theatrical and thrillingly cinematic!”
-Oliver Lyttleton, The Playlist

“Rewires Tolstoy’s classic tale!”
-Colin Covert, Star Tribune

“Nothing like it on screen anywhere this year!”
-Moira Mac Donald, The Seattle Times
